Have got an old laptop I'd like to use a dedicated media player. Its got modest specs, having 1.1 Ghz processor and 256-512 mb ram. I'd like to be able to turn it on, and as soon as possible, have a media player with a media library available.
I was assuming a linux distro would be most appropriate, but which one? What is a light, fast linux capable of being a dedicated media player?
I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 5 'Fluxbox' http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_elyssa_flux鈥?/a>
Linux Mint 5 'Fluxbox' would run blisteringly fast on your machine whilst having elegance at the same time.
LUg.
Medibuntu is Ubuntu, which means that there's probably a hundred terabytes of support information written about it, which is nice. Ubuntu is becoming the ONLY distro, which is sorta lame, but it's a fairly sturdy and well-designed Debian derivative.
LinuxMCE is very interesting, I recomend checking it out at linuxmce.com. If you do, make sure you tell us about your experience. What is a light, fast linux capable of being a dedicated media player?
Keep your OS light. Xubuntu maybe. or FluxBox might work. PcLinuxOS also good. Mepis is light enough for you as well. Also very user friendly.
Here.. When it comes to Linux, you are NEVER the first person to ask the question...
