mintInstall allows you to Add and Remove software without going anywhere near the Terminal

Nearly everything is done by gui in linux mint just like windows. Just at there are times when you may need to edit the configuration in windows there may be times when you need to use the terminal in linux. THe most common time is if some of your hardware is not configured out of the box by linux you may need to use the terminal to complete the configuration.

If you download the livecd of mint and run that it will not make any changes to your system or write to your hard drive and will boot up linux from the cd. You can then see if it has any problems with your hardware, and see if everything works o.k.

Try the linux lint livecd and see if everything works or not.

Be sure to read the instructions on how to install mint and configure it if you decide to install it.
