How can I install Linux to my crashed computer?

I have two laptops and one of them totally crashed.When I try to install my original recovery cd it gives me some errors and I think reason is scratched cd.I was thinking what if I download Linux to cd using my normal computer and put it to crashed computer and install it.Is it possible?Thank you!How can I install Linux to my crashed computer?

What the problem with crashed computers is that the OS is damaged but the hardware is fine what i would do is burn a copy of a linux distribution and insert it into the computer apon boot. if your computer is set to boot from the HDD first instead of the CD-ROM drive you may have to go into your BIOS to fix that.How can I install Linux to my crashed computer?
It will be no problem if there is nothing wrong with you hardware. I us Ubuntu it install just like windows os, if you are luck you might be able to retrieve data from the crashed PC.
