I would like to know what programming languages there are for Ubuntu Linux. Which is the best? Please keep in mind that I am a beginner. Thanks.

In other words, you're asking which compilers are available for the Linux platform.



The easier question would be - which compilers are NOT available for Linux. I'd say, every programming language that is currently available, can be used on Linux.
As already stated, a better question is what programming languages aren't there for Linux?



As to which is the best, that's the type of question that starts flame wars and bitter arguments. :)



Best language for doing x? is a better question as it really depends on what you are trying to do, even then there is still usually at least a couple possibilities.



I use C for embedded software, php for web stuff with a database backend, perl for various things, and of course things like sed and bash scripts for all sorts of things. Many games and general desktop software are still done in C++, but there is also Java (which is probably the most common used lang. when cross-platform compatibility is a concern), Ruby, Python, etc.

What programming languages are there for Ubuntu Linux?
anything that is open source,, C, C++ , Java, Python even stuff like Perl and Bash we use on linux,, Ubuntu is just debian,, furthermore just about any linux distro is the same thing save a package manager,, a desktop manager,, maybe a slight difference in directory structure,, all of them are optimal for development, HAVE FUN !!! Just use package manager to install whatever u need to develop u'll be programming in minutes
any major programming language (C/C++, Python, Java)
