What is a good desktop computer to run linux on?

what is a good computer, like HP or Dell, to run linux on. like Ubuntu. Or can i order the computer from the manufactorer with Ubuntu already loaded on it. any answers or links to good answers would be greatly appreciated. What is a good desktop computer to run linux on?
I have many linux machines from Ubuntu to mandriva. I did purchase a ubuntu machine from dell to support the movement and i have to say it really is awesome, but also not required. Linux can run on just about any machine. I have dells with it, emachines, and hp's.

If you are not sure your choice of distros will work with the machine you have picked out for it, try running it with the live cd version of your distro first(if it has one, most do now) and if you see problems with running that you will know before you format your drive... ;-)

The beauty of ubuntu is that you don't need a poweful computer to run it on.

I'm running on a Celeron 1.7 notebook and it runs smoothly and far more efficiently than Windows.

If your in the UK someone such as Ebuyer sells a nice cheap Acer, this should run Ubuntu fine. We've tried it on many Acers at our work and it runs great.

You can often purchase Dell computers loaded with Ubuntu - I would suggest though that you look in the Ubuntu forum or run a google for your machine such as "Acer M461 Ubuntu" - this often reveals if it runs OK and any issues.

Saying that most standard machines run great and I'm converting another 2 machines at home to Ubuntu including my main Athlon 64 bit machine and my file server. What is a good desktop computer to run linux on?
Good answer I would only add that you should consider Xubuntu as it is more versatile and just as free and awesome.
Any computer is a good computer for Linux. I think you can order Dells with Ubuntu, but my inclination would be to look for a better deal (price %26amp; feature-wise) and then check the machines of interest against Ubuntu with google to see what other people have to say about the combination.

I have run linux on a variety of desktops and laptops, only one machine wouldn't load it - but this morning I got Linux installed on that one also!!! (It is an old, old, old e-Machine by the way.)
